This weekend was the first time we have gone apple picking in California. I've only picked apples in New Jersey's cool fall weather, so when we arrived at Riley's Farm in Oak Glen (Yucaipa), California and the temperature reading was 99 degrees, we were in for a treat! HA! What a difference... weather-wise and culture-wise!
Aside from all of the apple pickers, there were a few mothers who brought their daughters "apple picking" so that they could shoot pictures for their modeling portfolio. Seriously... Yes, I did take lots of pictures of my kids, but they did not require a hand on the hip pose or a fancy sweater with a belted waist (don't forget about the 99 degree heat).

Well, our kids had a blast! Most of the trees were picked bare already, but we managed to find 2 trees covered in bright green Fuji apples at the top of the hill.... probably because no one was up for the climb! Each kid got their own 1/4 peck bag for $7 a piece. And we opted out of buying a gallon of fresh pressed apple cider for $15 a pop. We had enough samples to quench our thirst. ;)
Overall it was a fun memorable experience that will amount to many apple recipes to come!
